Privilège BecomesThird French
Cat to Offer STI Drive
395 will be first Privilège to go electric |
A third French catamaran
manufacturer has joined the list of OEM builders now
offering STI electric power drive systems. Alliaura Marine, builder
of prestigious Privilège luxury cats, will begin
construction this Fall of its first STI-electric vessel
- a Privilège 395.
The new electric cat is a joint venture
between Alliaura, Solomon Technologies and a U.S. Privilège
dealer, The Catamaran Company of Ft. Lauderdale, FL,
which is also Lagoon's largest US dealer.
The companies plan to introduce the
electric Privilège 395 at the Miami Strictly
Sail Boat show February 17-21. |
Defining business paradigm
"Once again a major French manufacturer has recognized
the benefits of our system," says STI founder Dave
Tether. "We think this kind of partnership will
be the 21st century's defining business paradigm: A
small high-tech company like ours comes up with a revolutionary,
environmentally friendly technology. A farsighted manufacturer
recognizes the competitive advantage the technology
will bring. And an aggressive dealer introduces the
product to the broadest possible market."

Lagoon and CatCo first
STI's first Franco-American partnership was with The
Catamaran Company and Lagoon, a subsidiary of Groupe
Bénéteau of Bordeaux, France. Next came
Long Island dealer Aeroyacht in partnership with catamaran
builder Edel of Honfleur, France.
Now STI and The Catamaran Company are
partnering with Alliaura, of Les Sables D'Olonne, France,
the same Bay of Biscay port where Lagoon cats are launched.
"The French and their American dealers have taken
the lead in recognizing the market potential of motoring
with the environment in mind," says Dave. |
Extra bow room
At 39'5" LOA with a 21'6" beam, the new Privilège
395 is a compact luxury cruiser that packs in a large amount
of belowdecks living space. The Privilège central bow
pod adds additional interior volume without noticeably increasing
the boat's exterior dimensions. Yet inside, the pod provides
enough additonal space for another berth.

Diesels cut from 3 to 1
The standard 395 is powered by two 28 hp Volvo diesels and
also carries a diesel-powered AC marine generator for onboard
appliances. The new electric version will be driven by our
12 hp ST 74 electric motor drives with a 15 kw DC generator
for backup.
"That means our system
will replace three diesel engines with only one - a
smooth-running, DC gen set in a sound-absorbing cocoon,"
says Dave. "The reduction in noise and polluting
exhaust emissions will be enormous."
Alliaura also builds Privilège
37, 435, 465, 585 sailing catamarans and 42 and 48 ft
power cats. |
